Travels with

Streak and Hank

or

The Occidental Tourist

You know, speaking as someone who really hates to leave my own apartment, I do seem to spend a lot of time traveling.

I really hate that.

One of my strategies is to pretend that my cats are actually doing the travelling. Another strategy is to pretend that I'm doing this for someone else, and will have to report back when I get home. This is largely why I write long diatribes about my travels. It is also why I usually let Jack do the traveling for me.

I don't really harbor any serious delusions that anyone will actually read any of these stories. After all, I wouldn't read that much crap written by someone else, so why should I expect someone to read this?

The above graphic is presented here without permission from, but with many thanks to ZBS Foundation, Inc., for the hours of entertainment and education they have provided me.

Using the above luggage tag has also provided me with a way of making sure my suitcase is easy to spot when it comes down the conveyor belt.

Therefore, I am always slightly delighted and staggeringly surprised when someone actually does read this. If they have any positive feedback, I'm without words. People who know my fondness for gab will quickly see this as a way to get me to shut up, so please, feel free to shut me up.

Destinations:

Three Weeks on a Train in Canada, June, 1990
(this one's long and boring, but so's Canada)

Sailing to the Bahamas, January, 1993
(this one's short and... strange)

Touring Scotland by Train, January, 1997
(all haggis, all the time)

A Weekend in Holland for No Particular Reason, June 2001
(it's only 3 days, so it has little chance to be too boring)
(an unfinished work)

Coming soon: NewfieTrek 2K3.
Quebec, Labrador and Newfoundland by Hearse
(in the mean time, you can see the pictures on the message board

(there are others, but much more boring, and not worth converting to HTML.
It is also interesting to note that the Scotland trip is the first
on which I actually bothered to take any pictures.)

What am I up to lately?
