Four Years in Graduate School
... and all I get is this lousy doorstop
I successfully defended my Master's Thesis on November 21, 1997, which was the final requirement for my master's degree. Yes, I am in this thing for the Ph.D., but getting the MA along the way gives me at least a small feeling that I've accomplished something.
A very small feeling.

So, on Tuesday, May 5, 1998, I found my diploma propped against the door.
Many people might be annoyed by this, but I just see it as a metaphor for the whole
process. The fruits of so much of my labor, represented by a doorstop in a mailer
that says "Do not fold."
